The Critically Endangered: Amur Leopard
Other Names: Far East Leopard, Siberian Leopard
Population: Only 25 to 34 known individuals remain. Out of these cats, only 6 are female. Typically, at least 100 individuals of a species are needed to avoid extinction.
Size: 55 to 130 pounds
Habitat: Currently known individuals reside in the mountains of southern Russia.
Diet: Carnivore. The diet typically consists of sika deer, roe, badgers, hares and small rodents.
Threats: Habitat destruction and the fur trade
Interesting Fact: The Amur Leopard has longer fur than other leopards, measuring about 2.5 cm in the winter to adapt for living in a cold climate.

Earth Hour
Tomorrow night - March 30, 2008, homes around the globe have committed to turning off lights and appliances and enjoy an hour of quiet darkness to support awareness of global climate change. This annual event is sponsored by WWF, and began last year in Sydney, Australia.
According to the website "The aim of the campaign is to express that individual action on a mass scale can help change our planet for the better."

The Critically Endangered: Mekong Giant Catfish
Population: Estimated 96 fish remaining
Size: 10 ft in length and weighing up to 660 lbs
Habitat: Southeast Asia’s Mekong River
Diet: Herbivore
Threats: Overfishing and infrastructure development
Interesting Fact: The Mekong Giant Catfish is the largest freshwater fish in the world.

The Critically Endangered: Mindoro Bleedingheart
Population: Less than 250 individuals, perhaps as few as 50
Size: 30 cm
Habitat: Forests on the island of Mindoro in the Philippines
Diet: These birds comb the forest floor for fallen seeds, grains, berries or worms.
Threats: Deforestation
Interesting Fact: Due to their plump size, these birds stay on the forest ground. Their extremely shy nature leads them to run at the slightest sound of human disturbance.
